Medicine is a science and an art. So is poetry!

The science of medicine does not change from person to person. Every physician learns and masters the same sciences.

So, what makes one physician “better” than another?

Why do patients open up to some physicians? Why do patients listen to some physicians? Why are some physicians able to educate and elevate patients and improve patient compliance and adherence to treatment goals?

It is because the science of medicine is the same for all physicians but the ART of medicine is vastly different from one physician to another.

A physician who has knowledge but also has empathy, altruism, practicality, problem solving and individualization is, by far, the most superior. Science is not enough. The art of medicine allows for transcendence!

Poetry is a science in the sense that the rules of prosody (meter), the vocabulary, the grammar are universal. However, the expression of life experiences, the exploration of human values and the quest for the purpose of existence transcends the science of language. The art of poetry allows one to reach beyond the limits of perception and immerse oneself in the loftiest realm of the soul, the infinite, and the divine!
